What is an EMDR Intensive?
Have you tried months or years of talk therapy and continue to feel like you have more healing to do?
I get it.
This is a common story I hear from folks when they first start EMDR therapy with me. To be clear, I’m not knocking the benefit of other therapeutic modalities, and especially the healing power of a safe relationship with a therapist. However, I know in my own life, I appreciate when I’m able to fully gain clarity and peace and meet the goal I set out to achieve.
EMDR, and particularly EMDR Intensives, can help you achieve your therapy goals, perhaps more completely than you might have imagined. I still see clients weekly, but I’m moving more into offering the intensive model.
Here’s why:
Intensives offer focus that is unparalleled to weekly therapy sessions; it’s easy to get pulled into repetitive (albeit sometimes necessary) conversations about life’s happenings during weekly sessions, and that pattern can limit progress.
Fast-tracked healing: no joke, I have witnessed clients move through what would have been weeks or months of therapy work in 3 hours!
Because it works for me. Personally, I do best in a highly focused space, without distraction, with a rhythm of task and a defined outcome(s). As a therapist, my honest-to-goodness hope is that my clients do not need therapy on a regular basis forever. I want my clients to be living their best lives! The EMDR Intensive model accommodates this hope.
EMDR Intensives look different for everyone, and while I list specific intensive packages on my website, I also offer flexibility in creating a model that works for you. Because, well, we all need something a little different. Generally speaking, however, here’s a framework of what I offer.
