What Therapy looks like with Katie
Here’s what’s most important to me: creating a safe space for my clients to heal, constantly collaborating with them to see and hear them fully, and seeking out people’s strengths and helping them to see them, too. I am a proud LGBTQ2IAS+ affirming therapist, and I celebrate the worth of all people.
I primarily use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help you reach your full potential. I'm also trained in various approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and motivational interviewing.
Working with me, you’ll notice that I am highly attuned to you. I help you notice the state of your own nervous system, and gently guide you to finding your center using mindfulness-based and somatic exercises. You will find that I’m always attempting to know you better, as a means to deeply understanding your unhelpful, stuck patterns and self-talk. This foundational to effective EMDR. You will notice, too, that I am confident in my skills and am unafraid and speak directly when needed.

What is EMDR:
It's understandable to feel overwhelmed when difficult memories and experiences weigh you down. EMDR therapy offers a unique and powerful way to heal, and I'm here to guide you through it with compassion and care.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a gentle yet effective approach that helps your brain process those painful memories in a new light, so they no longer hold you back.
Think of it as a bookshelf in your home. Prior to EMDR, the shelf is chaotic and not well organized, with books strewn around everywhere. With EMDR, we are able to organize the bookshelf. The goal is to be able to read those stories and to be less overwhelmed, allowing you to find peace and move forward.
How we'll work together:
We will work through the 8 distinct phases of EMDR together. Starting by exploring your current challenges and identifying your hopes for healing.
Together, we'll build a toolkit of coping strategies to help you navigate any overwhelm that may arise.
Once you feel equipped and we've mapped out the experiences to reprocess, I'll gently guide you through bilateral stimulation (like tapping or calming tones) while you focus on those memories. This helps your brain reprocess the experience and find relief.
You'll be in control throughout the entire process, and I'll be there to offer support and encouragement every step of the way.
EMDR can help with a wide range of challenges, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, and so much more.
If you're curious about EMDR and how it might support you on your healing journey, I invite you to reach out. I'm here to offer a safe, compassionate, and supportive space for you to explore this powerful approach.
